  • “Best Indian food in NYC, they also catered our reception and we love the quality and taste. ”

  • “I've been ordering from Dawat regularly over the past 6 months, and food and service has generally been amazing. But for the past month or two, everything started going downhill. First the service: what used to take 30 mins is now consistently over 1 hour. Then the food: the meat is much lower quality than it used to be, the portions are smaller, and they changed their delicious dessert in the lunch special to one of the most disgusting dessert I've ever eaten (I don't even know what that is) It used to be my go-to place, but with all these issues I have to change and find another reliable indian place. It's a shame because they used to be the bst in the neighborhood, but now are below average.”

  • “the quality of the food has not been outstanding the past couple of time. The mulligatawny soup was watery and flavorless - just heat - no nuance. The lamb was gristly. Not sure what is changing here, but it would be a shame to see such a great restaurant become otherwise. If the same thing happens when I order from here again I will have to eliminate another star and just consider this off my list at 3 stars”

  • “The best Indian cuisine in NYC. Nothing comes close.”

  • “We've been looking for a good Indian restaurant in New York for a very long time... Dawat is AMAZING!!! For some reason, most Indian restaurants do not have meat samosas, and when they do, the rest of their dishes are void of meat and okay at best. Dawat has great food and doesn't stinge out on the meat. I was surprised that they didn't have lamb korma, but the lamb curry made up for that, and more! ”

  • “The food was really good, they came quickly and it was hot. I got the Madhur Jaffrey`s Vegetarian Lunch Special, which was huge. I'll be eating it for days, which I think the restaurant knows, since they sent along three plates and several sets of utensils. I'll be ordering from this restaurant again.”

  • “I have never been more excited my a lunch special. I ordered the Vegetarian Lunch Special and it is a hilariously large amount of food. I did pick-up and they were very prompt. It comes with 8 containers of food, as well as Papadum and Naan. I started with a bite of the House Salad, which is standard chopped cucumbers, tomatoes, and mixed greens. Fresh and standard. The yellow daal is very well seasoned, very aromatic. The tandoori grilled vegetables were lightly charred and smoky. The aloo gobhi was delicious. My favorite was the paneer makhani which I spread over the basmati rice, which was flavored with golden raisins, almonds and peas. The rice is great when mixed with any sauce. Alone it is underseasoned, but everyone knows you mix it with sauces when you're eating Indian food anyway. Loved the naan, very moist and delicious. The cucumber raita is also amazing, and begging to be poured over fresh cucumbers and tomatoes. Of course I ate the Kheer at the end. It was a cold, milky rice pudding with almonds and raisins. I wish you could see how much food I have in front of me. I will be eating this delicious feast for the next 3 days! Seriously this is a midtown east lunch gem!”

  • “For some reason, they've decided to downsize their lunch portion by half. Given that other Indian restaurants in Midtown make just as good food for a fraction of Dawat's price, this is the last time I'm ordering from them.”

  • “Very simple review--the best Indian food I have tasted in the city.Well packaged and delicious upon delivery.Too expensive for delivery you say? No free rice with the meal?Well, based on my experiences, they much more than make it up to you with the generous portions(I get the equivalent of a free meal for the next day!) and extra goodie stuff.Nice people too. I love the chef's stringbean dish (forgot the Indian name),the chickpeas, the chicken tikka, the vegetable biryani etc.All is good, though.Splurge once on this restaurant and you'll see what i mean.Keep up the good work,Dawat!
