La Bella wants to be something more than it is. It has a severe identity crisis. On the one hand, they want to serve standard Italian-American fare, "comfort food" so to speak. They fail miserably at this because at the same time they want to be a high-end italian restaurant. THIS THEY ARE NOT. Don't get me wrong, the food is pretty good for what it is, but it is peasant food. Lot's of pastas, simple entrees, and plain soups such as minestrone. In Chicago you can pay the same price and have a much better more authentic high-end Italian experience. For simple comfort food, pretty good, but extremely overpriced.
