Evanston institution, used to be at a different location. Was one of the first places to offer family style (huge portions) dining. The food is Tasty and basic. If you have kids, the place is loud and rambunctious, so over all very child friendly. If you want a quite dinner I suggest delivery.

Reliable favorites are the broccoli soup (free homemade bread on request), the gorgonzola salad, a very rich spinach ricotta pie with lemon mushroom sauce, and the zuchinni stuffed with cheese and walnuts in marinara. Do not miss the chocolate mousse, one of the finest delivered deserts ever. Also they offer six-packs of pop, which is nice. The odd thing is, their pizza could be better... oh well, everything else is really top rate, or at least really good.

I do prefer to eat in at Dave's -- pasta tates best when it's perfectly fresh. It's frequently quite crowded (close proximity to NU campus), but still family-friendly, which is very helpful for those of us with kids. Their thin-crust pizza is tasty, but we usually order that just for our kids. We often get the eggplant or veal parmigiana, and the fettucine alfredo (a huge favorite of both mine and my eldest son). The latter could use a little extra sauce, but their pasta is always perfectly al dente and the portions are generous.
